Former Pitcher Loaiza Facing 10 Years to Life in Prison
Esteban Loaiza has the distinction of having the second most wins in the Major Leagues for a Mexican born pitcher. The guy with the most? That'd be Fernando Valenzuela.
Valenzuela has gone on to a nice broadcasting career since he retired way back in 1997. Loaiza? Well, he retired back in 2008 and has chosen quite a different career path. He chose the "I'm gonna sell cocaine" route.
Back in February of this year, Loaiza was being monitored by police. When a canine sniffed drugs in the vehicle, a warrant was issued for Loaiza's home. There, police found 20 packages of cocaine inside another vehicle. The total amount of cocaine found was about 44 pounds, which now could equal 10 years to life for Loaiza. Sentencing is set for November 2nd.
Loaiza had a 12 year playing career in the Majors, and played for what seems to be almost every team.
- Pittsburgh Pirates
- Texas Rangers
- Toronto Blue Jays
- Chicago White Sox
- New York Yankees
- Washington Nationals
- Oakland Athletics
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- Chicago White Sox (a second stint with the team)
Next up? I'm guessing a team in the California Penal League. (see 'Major League' for that reference)
