Multimillion-Dollar Esports Arena Opening This Year In Texas
The "biggest in the US" esports arena is being built in Texas for a whopping $10 million dollars and will open to the public later this year. If you love sports, there has always been plenty to do in Arlington, Texas. From the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and the WNBA's Wing teams, there are plenty of sports teams that call the city home, and now it looks like a new type of "sport" will be calling the city home too. Being called the "largest dedicated eSports venue in the United States," the 100,000 square foot stadium will be a brand new, state-of-the-art arena located in Arlington's Entertainment District. Arlington City mayor announced that the city will be partnering with Esport Venues, LLC for the new venture. $10 million dollars will be invested into this arena with the hopes that competitors and fans will come to the city for the new venue and bring their money to spend as well. The venue will hold not only room for 1,000 spectators but also VIP amenities, a broadcast area, training areas and the availability to hold events year round in the space. Here's what Ron Price, Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau president and CEO, had to say about the partnership:
"Arlington’s ability to adapt to an emerging sports entertainment market and readiness to make strategic investments to attract the esports tournaments and other high-tech entertainment events reflects the City’s drive to remain a thriving tourism destination."
Another reason that the city of Arlington is the perfection location for this sports arena? The close proximity to the University of Texas at Arlington, where there is a large and extremely active gaming community at the school. Located just ten minutes from campus, the arena, city and university are all excited to begin working together once the arena opens in the fall. Texas is making strides to become a major hub for sports entertainment. The second largest esports arena is currently being built in Houston for $70 million dollars that will have a space for esport viewing parties.
