Brewery Wants To Build A Bar Right On The Texas-Mexico Border

A Scottish brewery wants to build a bar, not a wall.

BrewDog, a brewery based out of Aberdeenshire, is known for doing some wacky stunts for publicity. From giving paid-leave for newborn puppy owners (which I fully support) to the very first craft beer hotel, BrewDog is known for having some serious outside-of-the-box ideas. Their newest idea?

A bar built right on the U.S./Mexico border.

The company recently opened up a brewery in Ohio and to celebrate they want to build the Bar On The Edge, a watering hole located right on the U.S./ Mexico border. BrewDog wants to give people on both sides of the border the chance to come together, and find unity over a pint of craft brew.

In a press release, co-founder James Watt says that the beer has always been a unifying factor:

“’The Bar on the Edge’ will be set up in the furthest outskirts of the United States, reflecting our ambition to reach every corner of the country as we begin to brew our beers on US soil. Beer has always been a unifying factor between cultures – and our business was born from collaboration and an inclusive approach – so we thought it would be fun to place the bar a few feet further to actually cross the US-Mexico border too.”

“We will request official permission from the local authorities to put it there and adhere to any red tape stuff, but I guess it would make it more difficult to build a wall if there’s a BrewDog bar in the way. We’re planning on putting the bar there anyway until someone tells us to move it.”

The exact location of the bar is still "top secret" but the company did say that half will be located in Texas, and the other half in Chihuahua, Mexico. They also said that the bar will be built out of old storage containers, and there will be a dotted line through the bar and the patio showing where Mexico and the United States meet. The bar will serve Mexican beers on the U.S. side and  American beers on the Mexico side.
