You have probably heard that playing an instrument improves math skills, but it can do a lot more than that.  A recent study from Northwestern University reveals that taking music lessons as a kid makes you a better listener as an adult.  Any instrument will do and they do not have to  keep studying music for years and years.  The researchers noted that people with even a little formal music training could hear whats called the fundamental frequency, which helps us with speech, music perception and distinguishing sounds in a noisy environment.
