Back in the mid-90's, Beanie Babies became a huge fad and were thought to be a great investment, so much so that kids didn't even remove the tags to keep their value up. So what about now?

Well now it is turning out NOT to be quite the investment we thought they would be.

According to Buzzfeed.com, comparisons were made on the estimated value of Beanie Babies from the 1998 "Beanie Baby Handbook" price guide with the price those same dolls are pulling on eBay currently.  Here are three examples:

Stripes the Dark Tiger was worth $250 in 1998 and expected to be worth $1,000 by 2008. You can get it on eBay today for $9.95.

Seaweed the Otter was worth $7 in 1998 and expected to be worth $60 by 2008.  You can get one on eBay today for $2.99.

Teddy the violet bear was worth $700 to $1,000 in 1998 and expected to be worth $4,000 to $5,000 today.  It is still selling for a good amount today, but not quite 5 grand, you can get it on eBay for $699.
