Ted Cruz Says Beto Will ‘Ban Barbecue Across the State of Texas’
Over the weekend, Senator Ted Cruz took a jab at his Democrats and his opponent Beto O'Rourke, right where it hurts a Texans heart. Senator Ted Cruz is now campaigning by trying to get Texans to not vote for Beto because he believes he will get rid of something that is truly Texan- barbeque. During a campaign event in Texas, the animal-rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) showed up at the event to protest and to hand out tofu barbeque. According to the Austin-Statesman, Cruz spoke about the protestors at the Columbus, Texas event saying,
“When I got here someone told me that even PETA was protesting and giving out barbecued tofu, so I got to say, they summed up the entire election: If Texas elects a Democrat, they’re going to ban barbecue across the state of Texas.”
Cruz acknowledged PETA's presence on Twitter with the banning barbeque comment again,
It seems Cruz was joking in the tweet by the laughing crying emojis that followed the comment as well as his campaign spokesperson Catherine Frazier telling people to "lighten up." This isn't the first time he's sarcastically bashed liberals. At a rally earlier in the month, he said out-of-state Democrats were funneling money into the state to turn Texas into another California. Cruz went so far as to say that liberals wanted to turn the Lone Star state "just like California, right down to the tofu and silicon and dyed hair."
