Groundbreaking was held earlier this week on the construction of the Summit Center, a new development for retail, and a new park on the northside of Midland.

The Midland Reporter-Telegram reports that the Summit Center will be a spacious 20-acre complex that will include a 4-acre park located on the corner of Mockingbird and Midkiff.

The Summit Center will provide a place for everyone in West Texas to meet up and have a good time with friends and family.

The center will have a food market, retail shops, restaurants, a bouldering location, a fitness and therapy center, and office space.

“While supporting local and family-owned businesses, Summit Center also plans to host a variety of fun, family-friendly events for the community at the park throughout the year,” their press release stated.

“For years we have wanted to build an exciting place to create memories and enjoy new experiences and to begin to make the attractions and amenities of our community as amazing as its people,” said Matt Johnson, one of the owners. “We are thrilled to get Summit Center underway and can’t wait to get it finished and open the doors to families and friends across our community.”

Summit Petroleum will be the first and anchor tenant at the aptly named Summit Center and they will begin leasing out the center starting in April 2022.

The Summit Center has an expected completion date sometime in the 4th quarter of 2023 with a grand opening in the Spring of 2024.
