Every Wednesday we feature a different pet that needs a new forever home here in the Basin from Lonestar Sanctuary For Animals. Sometimes it's a dog, sometimes it's a cat. They haven't had any guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, or snakes---yet. But you never know!

Meet Ava!

She is a year and a half-year-old Pit mix.  This sweet girl was brought to the Sanctuary after she was found on a person's doorstep with a pretty deep gash on her leg.  She was taken to the vet where they treated her injury and everyone there fell instantly in love with her sweet personality!  She has spent her entire time in the Sanctuary in quarantine healing from her injury.  Ava has gone on daily walks with staff and they have worked on basic commands with her.  They are actively working on her jumping, but that is a work in progress.  Due to her size and jumping, she can not be adopted by someone with a child under 10 years of age.   Her injury is now completely healed and Ava was so excited to meet other dogs in the shelter and be able to run and play!  She loves other dogs and met her first cat when she went to the vet for her spay.  Ava was curious and went over to sniff, but the cat was not happy to see her and hissed!  Ava immediately backed off and went away from the cat.  For this reason, the staff thinks she would do well in a house with cats.  Ava has lots of energy but once her energy requirement has been met, she is calm and enjoys quiet pets and affection.  Ava would be a great dog for an active person or family that enjoys hiking and camping.  She needs a fenced-in yard to run and would require walks in addition. She walks very well on a leash and is always happy for her walks!   Ava has a very sweet nature and loves to be with a person or dog or both.   If you are looking for a faithful companion to be at your side, come meet Ava! Lonestar Sanctuary For Animals is at 4200 Fairgrounds Road in Midland and visiting hours are every day 1 pm-4:30 pm--EXCEPT Thursdays--when they are closed to the public.
