1st Courthouse in 5 State Area Named After a Woman
According to the article on NewsWest9 a bill to rename an Amarillo federal building and courthouse has passed. Texas Senator John Cornyn introduced legislation earlier this year to rename the Amarillo federal building and courthouse the J. Marvin Jones federal building and the Mary Lou Robinson United States Courthouse. Robinson served as judge of Potter County court, the 108th district court of Texas, as Chief Justice of the Seventh Court of Appeals in Amarillo and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The courthouse is the first in a 5 state area named after a woman and Robinson happened to have served as the first female appellate judge in Texas.
