Todd Harrell of 3 Doors Down Free on $100,000 Bond Following Vehicular Homicide Charge

3 Doors Down
Mary Ouellette,

3 Doors Down bassist Todd Harrell was released from a Tennessee jail yesterday (April 23) on a $100,000 bail bond, after his involvement in the fatal car crash in Nashville on Friday night (April 19).

Officers on the scene allege that Harrell was under the influence and speeding when his car hit the pickup truck driven by Paul Howard Shoulders Jr. The impact caused Shoulders to spin out of control, hit a guardrail and flip down an embankment, ultimately leading to his death.

The Associated Press reports that Harrell admitted to drinking and taking the prescription drugs Lortab and Xanax prior to the automobile accident. Harrell was arrested for vehicular homicide by intoxication and bringing a controlled substance into the jail, after he allegedly tried to smuggle additional pills into the jail, hidden in his sock in the form of oxycodone and oxymorphone. In addition to the two felony charges, Harrell was also hit with four misdemeanors relating to the controlled substance abuse.

Harrell faces a long road ahead and his future with 3 Doors Down is seemingly up in the air. The Associated Press reports that Harrell is due in court this Thursday, while the Sun Herald reports that the bassist has a scheduled court date coming up in Tennessee on May 29.  Coincidentally, he has a May 28 court date in D‘Iberville, Tenn., stemming from a previous DUI charge on July 19, 2012.

Neither Harrell nor his attorney has yet offered a statement regarding the charges.

In light of these events, 3 Doors Down has cancelled their upcoming tour dates in May out of respect for the victim and his family.
