Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer would be considered “the new guy” in the band, but he still got to experience a milestone with the group earlier this year when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For the guitarist though, he’s not sure what it all means at this point.
Klinghoffer told Hitfix of the Rock Hall, “It’s a weird thing to have a Hall of Fame for rock. It’s weird that I spent years worshipping the Cure, and here’s the Chili Peppers, and then one gets in and one doesn’t. It’s ridiculous. In my heart of hearts, it means nothing to me, but I do understand it means a lot to other people. It creates positivity.”
Having spent only the last couple of years with the band, the guitarist admits, “I felt like a wanker on the stage because I just waltz in … partly on the strength of songs that [John Frusciante] helped write. Being the youngest person inducted is obviously going to have a lot of weirdness about it. But I mean to say that there’s no point in being negative about it.”
Even though he’s the young guy in the band, Klinghoffer has a solid pre-Chili Peppers resume, working with such acts as Beck, PJ Harvey, and Gnarls Barkley before jumping into John Frusciante’s footsteps.
