Press Release made by the Odessa Police Department on Monday, May 16th, indicated that police and fire rescue responded to a call for a deceased person at the Parkway Inn at 3731 East Hwy 80. It was discovered that a woman had been stabbed several times and was unresponsive.  The name of the victim was being withheld at the time pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

According to an affidavit obtained by Newswest9 a call was made by a resident on Garden Lane to report a suspicious item previous to the call that police and fire responded to at the Parkway Inn.

The resident called to report finding a backpack with a bloody knife wrapped in clothing.  From the backpack a blood trail was discovered leading to a nearby home and the discovery of a cell phone under a tree.

It was after the discovery of the backpack that officers were called out to a report of an injured woman at the Parkway inn, whom was later identified as 46 year old Cynthia Ann Mendoza, who had been stabbed to death in the hotel.

As with all investigations one of the first and most important things law enforcement will try to retrieve is any and all related surveillance footage.  Officers were able to obtain surveillance footage from the Parkway Hotel, according to Newswest9, showing Mendoza and Sarinana arguing before going into the room where Mendoza was later found stabbed to death.  There was yelling heard from the room and sometime later in the footage the suspect was seen exiting the room alone with a black backpack.  The footage clearly identified the suspect and victim.

Fingerprints were found on Mendoza's vehicle and identified as belonging to the suspect, Jose Antonio Sarinana.  Inside the hotel room where Cynthia's body was discovered a backpack was found containing a bank card with Sarinana's name on it.  Cynthia's family told investigators that she had a boyfriend named Jose.

Sometime on Tuesday, May 17th, the arrest of 46 year old Jose Sarinana, a man identified as Cynthia's boyfriend,  was made with the charge of murder. He is currently being held at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on a $500,000 bond.

It was just last month in the beginning of April that officers were called to a motel a few miles down the road in response to a 911 call from a witness reporting a lost child.

Officers responded to the Ramada Inn at 3001 E Hwy 80 where the witness told them that the mother had just showed up before they arrived and took the child back inside her hotel room.  Upon further investigation it was discovered that other witnesses reported having seen the child leave the hotel room "crying hysterically" earlier in the evening searching for it's mother, according to an article posted on the Conchovalleyhomepage.  Witnesses spent an hour with the child looking for it's mother before they decided they had to call the police.  Investigation later discovered that Laura Maples, 29, the child's mother, and Ronald Rollie 32, had been drinking all day, since 2pm.  A bartender at the Escape Lounge identified the two of them as being at the hotel that evening for around a hour and a half, despite Maples having told the officers that she was only away for 20 minutes or so and Ronnie telling the officers he had only left the hotel for 5 minutes.  The couple were both arrested for endangering/abandoning a child.
