In a new report, all 50 states were ranked to see which were the most charitable. Sadly, Texas was at the bottom of the barrel.

Today we get to celebrate #GivingTuesday, the day where Americans and people around the globe are coming together to give back to their communities. December is almost here too and the month of December is where a third of all annual giving happens and Americans are known as some of the most generous in the world. According to the World Giving Index, out of 140 countries the United States came in as the fifth most generous, and 63 million people volunteer almost 8 billion hours a year.

The personal finance website WalletHub decided to look at all 50 states to see which states are more altruistic than others. They used 14 indicators including volunteer rate, percentage of donated income, percentage of donated time, percentage of population who donate money, number of people who collect or distribute food and charities per capita.

Sadly Texas came out in the very, very bottom half of the list. Texas was the 45th least charitable state. Specifically, Texas came in at #34 on the "Volunteering and Service" rank and #48 for the "Charitable Giving" ranking. New Mexico did better but not by much. New Mexico came in at #40 on the list, with a #25 "Volunteering and Service" ranking and a #47 "Charitable Giving" ranking.
