It was 10 years ago we got a new home run king*. Yeah, I'm using the asterisk. But if you're looking at just straight number, not how they got there, Barry Bonds is the home run king.

I do remember thinking, over 10 years ago, how awesome it will be when Alex Rodriquez breaks the home run record because then will have someone who is clean with the record. HA! I was wrong on that one.

At this point, it would take a heck of a lot for someone to come close to threatening Bonds' record. The closest active player is Albert Pujols, who is 9th on the list with 609 home runs. It's probably out of reach for him. Next active players are Miguel Cabrera (number 37 with 459 home runs) and Adrian Beltre (number 38 with 455 home runs). Here is the top 10, plus some notable active players on the list.

  • 1 - Barry Bonds - 762 HR
  • 2 - Hank Aaron - 755 HR
  • 3 - Babe Ruth - 714 HR
  • 4 - Alex Rodriguez - 696 HR
  • 5 - Willie Mays - 660 HR
  • 6 - Ken Griffey - 630 HR
  • 7 - Jim Thome - 612 HR
  • 8 - Sammy Sosa - 609 HR
  • 9 - Albert Pujols - 608 HR
  • 10 - Frank Robinson - 586 HR
  • 37 - Miguel Cabrera - 459 HR
  • 38 - Adrian Beltre - 455 HR
