Starbuck's just released their new Instagram-friendly rainbow Tie-Dye Frappucino. The drink is only available for a limited time but many wonder if it's worth it. Many businesses are now working to be successful in a new way- having Instagram appeal. From large murals, bright colors, trendy foods and plenty of photo opportunities, the social media platform can bring in new customers and big profits. Starbucks eagerly jumped on the bandwagon with their Unicorn Frappucino, the pink and blue beverage that sold out and left baristas grumbling over the difficult to make beverage.

Now, their latest creation is the limited edition Tie-Dye Frappucino, a tropical blended beverage which reportedly takes an eye-roll inducing ten steps to create. Baristas are moaning about how Starbucks didn't listen to their complaints about the Unicorn Frap and now they're again putting the workers in extremely stressful conditions. It's one thing to ask for your specific latte order, another trying to mix ingredients in just the right way to make a cool, frozen tie-dye look about a hundred times in two hours.  Even with all the reservations about this new trendy drink, we decided to order the beverage just to see if it was even worth all the hype.

Turns out, it isn't.

The coworker who went to order the drink was greeted with an unenthusiastic eye-roll from the employee he ordered from and when the drink arrived, it looked nothing like the photos that have been popping up all over social media. The drink was overall yellow with a small amount of greenish blue at the bottom of the cup, not the tie-dye blending technique seen before. The drink had been described as a tropical fruit flavor with a hint of vanilla from the whipped cream. At first sip, it was obvious you taste more of an overpowering banana flavor with a hint of vanilla. Not exactly the "tropical" flavor you would expect.

When considering the taste and end look of the Tie-Dye Frappucino, we wouldn't recommend getting this drink. Not to mention the amount of effort put in by the baristas to create this drink. You'd get less sugar and spend less money by simply making a banana shake at home. Go to Starbucks and get a latte or iced coffee instead. It's cheaper and your barista will thank you. Or maybe avoid your neighborhood Starbucks for the next five days, that's how long the Tie-Dye Frappucino will be in stores.
