Everything that Shaq does is big, so I didn't expect anything small when I heard he was opening a chicken sandwich franchise. According to Franchising.com, there are over 50 restaurants planned for Big Chicken just in Texas.

The first of these has already opened in Austin, Texas in the Moody Center - the big new 15,000-seat Longhorn basketball and concert arena. The venue is on the campus of the University of Texas.

This was only the third Big Chicken location to open, but the number of restaurants is quickly increasing, seemingly daily.

They opened their first location in Las Vegas in 2018, and then took a pause during the pandemic. Now the restaurants are back on track and opening all over. Soon they will open a Houston location near the Galleria.

Shaquille O'Neal Opens Big Chicken Soon In Houston, Texas

The Big Chicken inside the Moody Center in Austin might only be open during events, as there is no online ordering option like some of their other locations. The location in Houston will be, in my opinion, the first 'real' full-time location in Texas.

It will be located at 9660 Westheimer at South Gessner in the Woodlake Square Shopping Center. According to the Houston Chronicle, this is one of eight Big Chicken restaurants planned for Houston in the next 7 years.

There are also currently two Big Chicken restaurants on Carnival Cruise Ships. You can find them on the Carnival Radiance and their new massive Mardi Gras launched in 2021.

How Does The Food At Big Chicken Taste?

With so few locations open at this time there aren't many reviews, but most of them are very good. I'm intrigued by the menu and the massive Diesel-sized 'Big Cookies' that look like they could single-handedly feed a family of four.

The star power of Shaq is really a big drive for this franchise. The potential customers seem far more concerned with meeting Shaq when the locations open up near them than tasting the food. Bok Bok!
