Nicolas Cage Starring in Action Sci-Fi Movie ‘The Humanity Bureau’
No, it’s not a sequel to The Adjustment Bureau, and, no, Nic Cage probably won’t wear one of those nifty dimension-hopping hats. The Humanity Bureau sounds like more of a Gattaca-meets-Elysium kind of thing, where people are unfairly assigned to live in poverty based on whether or not they’re productive to society. And Nicolas Cage has been cast to save them all, of course.
Sarah Lind, Jakob Davies, and Hugh Dillon co-star in the film which is set to begin production in Canada this week. According to Deadline:
The Humanity Bureau is set in the year 2030 when global warming has wreaked havoc in parts of the American Midwest. In its attempt to take hold of the economic recession, a government agency called The Humanity Bureau exiles members of society deemed unproductive and banishes them to a colony known as New Eden. An ambitious and impartial caseworker (Cage) investigates a case appealed by a single mother (Lind) and her son (Davies). Knowing the unjust fate of the innocent boy, Kross sets off to save their lives and expose the truth about The Humanity Bureau’s secrets once and for all.
This honestly sounds like the perfect Cage picture: Cage plays the hero, he gets to save a mother and her kid, and it’s set in some sort of weird dystopian future. And there’s a global warming angle! This movie has everything. And now it has Nicolas Cage. To be honest, we kind of miss the good old days of Con Air or Face/Off or even Adaptation where Cage would play the straight up weirdos instead of the straight man heroes, but as long as he’s having fun, so are we. Besides, he gets to be plenty weird in Army of One, which is out in theaters now.
