Man Wins $1 Million, Goes to Doctor, Dies Weeks Later
Imagine winning $1 million in the lottery. Now imagine that winning that money allows you to finally go to the doctor. Now, imagine the doctor ends up finding cancer. Stage 4 cancer that is so advanced you only have a few weeks to live.
This happened to Donald Savastano. When Savastano won the lottery he said:
“Being a self-employed carpenter, I didn’t really have a plan for retirement,” Savastano told WBNG at the time. “The money will help with that. I don’t have any other extravagant plans. I’ll buy a new truck, pay off some debt and invest for the future.”
Savastano hadn't being feeling well for awhile, but he didn't have insurance since he was a self-employed carpenter. The 51 year-old used some of his winnings to finally go to the doctor, but it was nothing but bad news.
He was diagnosed with stage 4 lung and brain cancer and was told he didn't have long to live. It took just three weeks for Savastano to succumb to the cancer after his original diagnosis.
Savastano is survived by his mother, four brothers and two sisters.
