We're approaching that time of year again. Where there's an abundance of chocolate, cookies and cakes, and candy all over the place. It starts with Halloween and the buckets of candy for the kids and the bags of leftover candy no one knocked on the door for, for the adults. Then we roll on to Thanksgiving where, after turkey or ham and all the fixins, pies are the treat of the evening. Then comes Christmas. And all the fudge and peppermint and caramels and cookies and cakes..... And of course the candy! Not to mention all the flavored coffees and blended drinks at your favorite coffee shop! We have a lot of outstanding dessert places in Midland--Amara Gelato with their amazing flavors, Marble Slab Creamery, Fountainville Creamery & Soda Fountain, Red Plate Diner, and of course the chains like Baskin Robbins....

But that doesn't have to be all. We all have our favorite dessert that's good all year-'round. Could be Ice Cream Sandwiches or a bowl of ice cream; could be chocolate chip cookies, could be as simple as a Snickers candy bar (full size, not the bite-size teasers). My choice: A nice big bowl of Rice Pudding. And usually, with cinnamon on top. Tonight, however--I would discover something even better to add-in. Instead of using regular cinnamon, I found a container of Cinnamon SUGAR. I tried it with some whipped cream--pure heaven! All I could think of was "where has this little gem been my whole life??!!"...

If you've never tried Rice Pudding--I've heard it compared to Tapioca-although I've never tried Tapioca pudding so I can't say for sure. All I know is I've loved it since I was a kid, thanks to my mom's friend and our neighbor across the street Marie Prokuski. We used to walk two blocks with her to the end of our street to a little place called "The International Cheeseburger Restaurant" at the corner of Belmont and Opal streets and eat dinner once a week or so, and Marie would always have a bowl of Rice Pudding. So she had me try it and I was hooked. Give it a shot--and let's all go for a walk afterward and burn off those calories!
