The man at the center of the infamous "Kiss and Kill Murder" back in 1961, has passed away at age 75.

According to CBS 7, John Mack Herring was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 1961 murder of his ex-girlfriend Betty Williams who, it's reported, asked him to kill her.

The jury in the trial, held in Winkler County, deliberated for over 11 hours before finding Herring temporarily insane at the time of the murder.

Texas Monthly did an in-depth story on the "Kiss and Kill Murder" back in 2006.

It is believed that Betty's spirit still haunts the halls of OHS to this day.

Mack Herring continued living in Odessa after the trial until his death this past Saturday (January 5, 2019).
