Did El Paso Rep. Veronica Escobar Say ‘No Mames’ During The SOTU?
During President Trump's State of the Union Address, the issue of border security was brought up and social media blew up focusing on Escobar's muttered remark. During last night's State of the Union Address, the president discussed border security and how he believes our nation has a crisis right now at our southern border. The president continued urging Congress to give funding for the border wall and hinted again that another government shutdown is looming in less than two weeks. During his discussion about security, the president said that El Paso was one of the most dangerous cities in the United States until the border wall was erected. Here is what the President said, according to the El Paso Times,
“The border city of El Paso, Texas used to have extremely high rates of violent crime — one of the highest in the entire country and considered one of our Nation's most dangerous cities. Now, immediately upon its building, with a powerful barrier in place, El Paso is one of the safest cities in our country.”
During this speech is when one of the biggest moments on Latino Twitter was born. El Paso representative Veronica Escobar was sitting prominent in the shot of the president and they were able to see her response to Trump's El Paso claims....
And thus, an iconic moment on Latino Twitter has been born. Many are saying they can tell, she is muttering the words "No Mames." We're just upset she forgot to add "guey" at the end.
