Apparently, there is not much limit to what you can buy online these days, however, there are laws. We believe many laws have been broken in this story of a man in Pennsylvania who purchased $4000 worth of body parts from a woman in Arkansas with the intent to re-sell them.

According to a story released from the East Pennsboro Township Police Department, in Pennsylvania; On June 14th, 2022, East Pennsboro Township Police received a call about suspicious activity in the 200 block of N. Enola Rd, Enola, PA. An investigation was conducted and determined that a man named Jeremy Pauley of Enola, PA was purchasing human body parts from a woman named Candace Scott in Enola, Arkansas.  The significance of the town names being the same is unknown at this time.

According to reports, Ms. Scott had stolen the body parts from a mortuary under contract by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Enola, AR is located about 10 miles northeast of Camden.

The items were sold to Pauley from Scott reportedly for $4000.

Upon investigation, human remains were located in Enola, Arkansas and Scranton, PA. The items included:

  • One Half Head
  • One Whole Head, minus the scull cap
  • Three brains
  • One heart
  • One liver
  • One lung
  • Two kidneys
  • One full female pelvis
  • One piece of skin, with a nipple
  • Four hands

Those human remains were being sold on Facebook for monetary gain. Mr. Pauley was arrested and released on $50,000 dollars unsecured bail. No word yet on the fate of Ms. Scott.

The University issued this statement:

UAMS is extremely grateful to the many people who unselfishly donate their bodies to our anatomical gift program for use in medical education and research. Human bodies are an indispensable aid in the education of medical students, nurses and other health professions students. UAMS is extremely respectful of our donors when they are here in our care. We have a contract with Arkansas Central Mortuary Services to take the bodies for cremation after they are no longer being used by our students. An employee of the mortuary service is under investigation by federal authorities for taking some human remains from the mortuary that were donated to UAMS. We are saddened and appalled that this happened.

The cooperative investigation was conducted by the East Pennsboro Township Police, FBI Harrisburg, FBI Scranton, FBI Arkansas, Arkansas State Police, Cumberland County Coroners office, Cumberland County Forensics Division, Bloomsburg Police Department, United States Postal Service and the Pennsylvania State Police.

Charges include: Abuse of Corpse, Receiving Stolen Property, Dealing in Proceeds of Unlawful Activities
