It was a gruesome scene, with bloody bodies strewn about. Thousands of people had been there to watch fireworks in celebration of Bastille Day, a major French holiday.
There is no official connection to terrorism yet, though the attack bears many markings of an ISIS-style incident. Authorities are still examining the scene and many cellphone videos which captured the horrific event.
Apparently the driver began by firing an assault rifle into the crowd, which has been called as large as 40,000. He then got back into the truck and drove upwards of 25-30 miles per hour and accelerated, plowing through throngs of victims, killing dozens and knocking others aside. It finally came to a stop more than a mile after it began.
