We are one week into the 2018 Peyongchang Winter Olympics and apparently NBC has been saying the name of the city all wrong, on purpose. Here is your update.

  • NBC has been pronouncing Peyongchang like it rhymes with "slang" when the "chang" should have an "ah" sound. And apparently NBC knows this. They say they heard different pronunciations before the games and decided on rhyming it with "slang."
  • American Vincent Zhou landed the first ever quad lutz.
  • Austrian snowboarder Mark Schairer was seriously hurt in a crash. He was transported to the hospital where doctors found he broke the fifth vertical vertebra in his neck.
  • It was a rough day for the US in regards to medals, as they basically took fourth in all the events.
    • US skier Mikaela Shiffrin didn't medal as she took fourth in the women's slalom. She won gold in the giant slalom and was supposed to at least medal in this event as it's her best event. But after sitting in second place for awhile, she was bumped to fourth.
    • The US was unable to medal in the luge relay, also coming in fourth place.
    • Lindsey Jacobellis' Olympic woes have continued as she placed fourth in women's snowboardcross. You might remember her as the one who pulled this move back in the 2006 Winter Games.
