'Guardians of the Galaxy' is now officially the biggest movie of 2014, which makes greenlighting 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' back in July seem like one of the smarter things Marvel has done. But, while 'Guardians of the Galaxy' was able to pleasantly surprise people with how good it is, now all eyes are on 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' and whether it can live up to the original. One thing we've all wondered about the sequel is whether the Guardians would be introduced to any Earth-bound heroes, or vice versa. Could there be any new members of the Guardians of the Galaxy?

Director James Gunn continued his victory lap, attending DragonCon in Atlanta and was asked by the crowd about new recruits, specifically Ms. Marvel, who we've heard a lot about in the past few weeks regarding her future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite her just being added to the Guardians lineup in the comics back in May, Gunn says he has no plans for her, or any other superhero, to join the Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot.

According to Collider, Gunn says that he will be avoiding "earthlings" in 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' (and that would include Ms. Marvel herself, Carol Danvers) so as to keep the focus squarely on Star-Lord (who, as we know, is at least part-Earthling). Gunn did add though that he would not be at all surprised to see Ms. Marvel join the ranks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some other property say, oh I dunno, 'Avengers 2'?...

Recently, however, we've heard that Marvel may be rethinking their original plan to introduce Ms. Marvel in 'Avengers 2' and could possible introduce her later in 'Captain America 3'. Either way, don't expect her, or any of the other Avengers to make an appearance in 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2'.

Now, what Gunn didn't say, was whether or not his Guardians would ever team up with other Earthling superheroes in another film, namely 'Avengers 3'. As we build up toward the Infinity Gauntlet storyline and Thanos as the overarching big bad of this entire series, we'd have to imagine that the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy will have to team up in some way, shape or form sometime in the relatively near future.
