Sir Christopher Lee is back in all his heavy metal glory! The legendary actor has captivated metalheads with his ‘Charlemagne’ and ‘A Heavy Metal Christmas’ albums in the past few years, and the acting icon has struck again with his ‘Metal Knight’ EP. Lee’s 92nd birthday was on May 27, and in celebration, ‘Metal Knight’ was unleashed.

‘Metal Knight’ is all about turning songs from a world of genres into heavy metal masterpieces. Firstly, Lee has been inspired by the character of Don Quixote from ‘Man of La Mancha.’ The first two tracks on ‘Metal Knight’ are explored by Lee through his own booming voice.

The second of the two Don Quixote tracks is ‘The Impossible Dream’. “‘The Impossible Dream’ is, in my opinion, one of the greatest songs ever written,” says Lee, adding, “Here is a man, an old man, a very old man full of daring, bravery, courage, determination, romanticism and dreams.”

Moving forward, Lee sings ‘The Toreador March,’ inspired by the opera ‘Carmen.’ “It was written in French and all I can say personally, as a singer, is it was an absolute killer to sing,” Lee explains. “The French words are very short for the most part and the notes are very short for the most part, and to put the two together is extremely difficult.”

Finally, Mr. Lee takes on ‘My Way,’ written by Paul Anka and popularized by Frank Sinatra. “The song ‘My Way’ is a very remarkable song, it’s also very difficult to sing because you’ve got to convince people that what you’re singing about is the truth,” begins Lee. “It’s a man who is very proud of having achieved everything that he’s achieved his way. I’m not Frank Sinatra and I don’t even attempt to sing it like him. I think I sing it more operatically in a way, than he did, because I’m not a crooner, if you can call him that. Actually, he was a very fine singer, outstanding singer, like Bing Crosby was too. They can carry a tune and make it mean something like nobody ever has. So, I don’t imitate anyone, I do it in the best way I can.”
