Black Sabbath Lead Winners at Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards
Black Sabbath have enjoyed a banner year and it just got better at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour at London's Roundhouse. The group won three of the night's top honors at the event.
The band won Album of the Year for their '13' album and Event of the Year for topping the charts after 43 years, as well as receiving the career-spanning Living Legends award. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler were all present, with Osbourne calling it the perfect end to "a shock year."
Osbourne added, "I never thought I'd be standing here, what, 45 years later? It's an incredible event for us all. We're still in shock. It's been an incredible year, after I spent all those earlier ones trying to kill myself." Meanwhile, Iommi used the platform to thank the fans for their support after a year in which he's alternated time between touring and receiving cancer treatments.
Led Zeppelin also won one of the night's big honors, taking home Film of the Year for their 'Celebration Day' concert flick. Jimmy Page explained, "It was a great concert and we got the energy into the video - well, the DVD … and the Blu-Ray. I'm here on behalf of the band and I thank you on their behalf."
Other winners of note included the Virginmarys, who received the Breakthrough Award, Rush's Alex Lifeson who nabbed the Spirit of Prog honor, the Darkness for the Showman award and Zakk Wylde as the Metal Guru recipient.
