Warner Bros. Wants Its Own Kevin Feige To Head the DCEU
Now that Discovery has officially acquired WarnerMedia, we might be seeing some structural changes to the DC Extended Universe. According to Variety, new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is on the hunt for a Kevin Feige-like figure to unite the DCEU into a more cohesive entity.
Zaslav is looking for “candidates with experience in creating and nurturing blockbuster intellectual property with a goal of potentially finding someone to serve as a creative and strategic czar similar to what Marvel has in Kevin Feige.” Besides that, the desired candidate is also described as “someone who has the type of business background needed to keep all the different factions at DC working more harmoniously.” That sounds like a massive job role to fill, but someone has to do it if DC is to truly rival what has already been built at Marvel Studios.
Originally, Warner Bros. had intended for filmmaker Zack Snyder to spearhead a new era of superhero movies. While Snyder has clearly garnered a devoted fanbase — the rallying for the Snyder Cut being a prime example — his DC character-based films didn’t quite perform as well as the studio’s more unconventional installments. For example, Aquaman and Wonder Woman provided a completely fresh take on their characters. Joker and The Batman existed completely outside the parameters of Snyder’s cinematic universe.
As Warner Bros. Discovery searches for a potential showrunner for the DCEU, we still have plenty of movies to look forward to, including Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and The Flash. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has been venturing into streaming series with Peacemaker on HBO Max.
