Texas Rangers Part Ways with Manager Chris Woodward, Twitter Reacts
Looks like all of those one-run losses have cost Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward his job.
The news was first reported by Rangers insider Evan Grant.
The Rangers confirmed the firing shortly after.
Oddly enough, the news comes after the Rangers took the series against the Seattle Mariners over the weekend, which is something they haven’t been able to do all season long. That makes me think they were already planning on doing it but didn’t want to put a damper on the Rangers’ Hall of Fame Weekend.
While I haven’t been in the camp of those who thought he should be fired, I fully expected it to happen – after the season. But the Rangers obviously had different plans.
According to CBS Sports, Woodward’s record as manager is 211-287 (.424) over the course of his four seasons with the team. That’ll get anybody fired – regardless of the fact that he hasn’t had much to work with in terms of elite talent prior to this season.
Many fans have been calling for Woodward to be fired this year. In fact, a petition to have him fired was launched at change.org.
However, the news was met by fans on Twitter with mixed reactions, many showing support for Woodward.
