Texas A&M Football Gets First Place on a Not So Glamorous List
The college football season is in the homestretch in week 8 and Texas A&M is #1 on a not-very glamorous list.
According to The Sporting News, several teams that were thought to be contenders for the playoffs and possibly the National Championship have fallen short this season and Texas A&M got the prize of the most disappointing team of 2022.
The Sporting News ranked the top 5 most disappointing teams of 2022 like this:
1. Texas A&M (3-4)
The Aggies were ranked #6 in the preseason ranking and last week had their worst loss of the year 30-24 to the South Carolina Gamecocks which is their first loss to that team since they moved into the SEC in 2012. Another bad loss they had was the 17-14 loss to Appalachian State on September 10.
2. Miami (3-4)
The Hurricanes were ranked #16 in preseason rankings, but crucial losses to teams like Middle Tennessee State 45-31 and a 45-21 loss to the Duke Blue Devils where Miami had 8 turnovers.
3. Notre Dame (4-3)
The Fighting Irish were ranked #5 in preseason rankings but after a 26-21 loss to Marshall on September 10 and a 21-10 loss to Ohio State in the opening week, their season did not start out well. Adding to the pain was when they lost their starting quarterback Tyler Buchner for the season with a shoulder injury, but his backup Drew Pyne has not done a bad job at filling in.
4. Michigan State (3-4)
The Spartans were ranked #15 in preseason rankings but had their worst loss on September 24 when they lost 34-7 to Minnesota which was their second loss after starting the season 2-0.
5. Oklahoma (4-3)
The Sooners were ranked #9 in preseason rankings but after a three-game losing streak to TCU, Kansas State, and their worst margin of defeat in a rivalry dating back to 1903 to Texas in the Red River Rivalry where they were shut out 49-0. This is not a good start for a team that is set to move into the SEC in the next couple of years.
So there are your most disappointing teams of the 2022 season at about the midway point of the season.
