(NOTE: The above picture is not the meme I'm talking about, but I'm sure you've seen memes posted all over Facebook.)

Monday afternoon I happen to notice a meme on my news feed that really pissed me off.

The meme was basically saying how happy this person was with all the extra money they had to spend as a result of gas prices falling.  I saw red, I had visions of punching someone squarely in the neck and giving out zero amounts of F#$%s.  At first I wanted to post a comment directed at the person to whom the meme came from, but then I realized some people may not understand the dynamic of the economy we live in here in good ole oil country, specifically Midland and Odessa Texas.  Perhaps what is needed is a little Oil and Gas and how it effects our overall economy for dummies course.  I would be more than glad to break it down in the most simplest of terms.

The amount of money you stand to save by the price of gas going down can in no way out weigh the onset of lost jobs and all the things that follow as a direct result of large numbers of unemployment at the same time in the same area.  It just isn't worth it not the mention the fact that people would lose their jobs, that alone should be enough for you to sacrifice that 5-10 dollars a week you might be saving.

So the next time you hear someone celebrating over the price of gas going down, bragging about that extra 2 bucks they just saved and what they plan on spending it on...A few stamps? Some bubble gum? Cant even buy a Red Bull for that...tell them to shut their dirty dollar loven mouths....
