Slayer, ‘Bloodline’ vs. Cannibal Corpse, ‘Make Them Suffer’ – March Metal Madness 2016, Round 1
Slayer are going up against self-described Slayer fanatics Cannibal Corpse in what will be a brutal fight in Round 1 of March Metal Madness. "Bloodline" or "Make Them Suffer" will survive the round and advance for a shot to be named the Best Metal Song of the 21st Century.
Slayer reclaimed their rightful spot on their throne in 2001 with the release of the volatile God Hates Us All. The album employed a modern rhythmic sound to their blasphemous nature, thrusting them into the new metallic age with a flair of their signature style still in tow. "Bloodline" takes the Seasons in the Abyss aesthetic and slows things down as Tom Araya delivers a gritty croon and the tandem of Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman take things into sonically muddy waters with their thick, wall of sound riffing.
Cannibal Corpse fired on all cylinders on Kill, sounding revitalized and fresh, not that their output had started to slack in any department. Led by the infectious yet relentless single "Make Them Suffe,r" the death metal stalwarts proved they were still in peak form over 15 years into their career. George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher's vocal delivery is intelligible and features memorable lines and an unforgettable chorus. Brutality is the way of life for this quintet and they might have what it takes to overthrow the legendary Slayer.
