Ready To Retire? Don’t Move To This West Texas City
If you are like me and looking toward retirement, there is one Texas city that you don't want to move to.
According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, that city would be our neighbor to the north, Lubbock.
A recent list named the best and worst places to retire in the U.S. and Lubbock came in as the worst.
To determine which cities were the best places to retire, WalletHub looked at several things like affordability, activities, quality of life, and health care. Also included was taxpayer friendliness for retired age people, like inheritance taxes, recreational, and entertainment options like bingo halls, weather, museums, and percentage of people over 65, just to name a few.
The most retirement-friendly city in the U.S. was Charleston, SC.
No Texas cities made it into the top 60 but Austin was the top Texas city coming in at #66.
So we know Lubbock came in at the bottom, but close to them at the bottom was Amarillo even though they have the #4 lowest adjusted cost of living with Brownsville at #1 and Laredo at #2.
Overall Austin, Brownsville, and San Antonio were the only Texas cities to rank in the Top 100.
Brownsville's top score was affordability, while Austin's was activities and San Antonio also ranked highest in activities as well.
With one of the metrics being the percentage of population over 65, it is obvious with Lubbock being a college town that the majority of the city would be the under 30 crowd.
So when planning your retirement, head to South Carolina and set up residence in Charleston.
