Despite what the song title may suggest, Rancid had more than a "Ghost of a Chance" at wowing the crowd during their performance on Conan last night (Aug. 24). The punk vets delivered exactly the kind of high energy rock that's made them one of the genre's top acts for well over two decades.

With a straight-to-the-point intro by Conan O'Brien, the rocking foursome launched into the song with vigor and aggression. Drummer Branden Steineckert is just a fury of limbs pounding away behind the kit, while Lars Frederiksen and Matt Freeman flank bearded frontman Tim Armstrong, pushing the aggression with their licks. It's a high energy performance that never lets up from the word go, and the crowd appeared appreciative with a heartier round of applause than you typically get from a studio audience at the end.

"Ghost of a Chance" is featured on Rancid's latest album, Trouble Maker, which was released back in June. In addition to "Ghost of a Chance," the band has been earning radio spins for their song "Bovver Rock and Roll."

The Conan appearance comes just as Rancid return to the West Coast. The band will play Las Vegas' Downtown Las Vegas Event Center tonight (Aug. 25) and they'll headline the It's Not Dead festival tomorrow (Aug. 26) in San Bernardino, Calif.
