Metalhead Growls Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Hurt’ on ‘The Voice’ Quebec + Is Eliminated
Sad news for anyone in the corner of metalhead La Voix contestant Louis-Paul Gauvreau. The vocalist has been voted off Quebec’s version of The Voice, but got to crush his final performance by singing a rendition of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt.”
Gauvreau became a hero to metalheads who both love and hate reality singing shows with his audition. The vocalist growled his way through Necrophagist’s “Stabwound”and was actually chosen by French Canadian folk / pop singer Isabelle Boulay to be a part of her team. He would go on to perform Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild” and "L'abîme du rêve" by Quebec-based black metal band Incandescence on the show, sticking with the good stuff that brought him to the national stage.
Gauvreau’s performance of “Hurt” was done mostly in the style of Nine Inch Nails, rather than Johnny Cash’s iconic cover. After some gruff clean singing from the performer, his guttural attack once again reared its head. Louis-Paul put his own spin on “Hurt” during the song’s second half and the results were spectacular.
Unfortunately, we won’t be hearing from Gauvreau on La Voix again unless they bring him back for a special encore, but bravo to the metalhead for getting so far in the competition! You’ve earned every metalhead’s respect, dude!
