KISS are perhaps the most visually recognizable band in all of rock. The four painted figures have been the literal faces of the band for over four decades, but a performance last night saw a notable absence of star power. Frontman Paul Stanley, known as 'the starchild,' was forced to miss a benefit show KISS headlined as he went under the knife to repair a torn bicep.

Stanley took to social media to provide updates on his condition. He posted an image on Twitter (seen below), showing his arm in a sling and stating, "Tore my bicep tendon. Surgery reattached it with a screw and stitches to anchor in place. Not much I can do now!" A few hours later, he uploaded another image of himself and explained he'll be ready to go long before the band embark on the 'Freedom to Rock' tour this summer, saying, "Thanks to my AMAZING doctor I WILL be great and ready to rock WAAAAYYYY before the tour! CAN'T WAIT!"

The Race to Erase MS gig saw the icons take the stage as a power trio with bass player Gene Simmons also taking on the role of lead singer. The winged demon is no stranger to getting behind the mic, assuming lead duties on a wealth of KISS classics, including "Cold Gin" and "Rock and Roll All Nite" which can be seen in the video above. The set only consisted of four songs in all and the event raised over $250,000 as reported by the Washington Post.

KISS' 'Freedom to Rock' tour is set to begin on July 7 and run all the way through Sept. 10. Support on the first half of the trek will come from American Idol season 13 winner Caleb Johnson with Dead Daises replacing the singer in early August.
