El Paso City Officials respond To Potholes Across City
Well, El Paso’s first snow day of 2026 was fun while it lasted. Now El Paso has to deal with the aftermath of a rain/snow storm filled weekend: Fog and Pot Holes.
Saturday is when most of the weather activity started with rain storms taking over El Paso pretty much all day. Then came the snow. Sunday morning was the first official snow day of 2026 for El Paso and it was a pleasant one!
Schools were delayed Monday morning out of precaution, and honestly, smart move because many El Pasoans, myself included, woke up to dense fog across parts of the city, making the morning commute extra stressful. Reduced visibility slowed traffic and made already slick roads even trickier to navigate.

And then came the real villain of the story: Potholes
As the rain and snow melted, road damage started showing up fast. Drivers across El Paso began reporting potholes popping up seemingly overnight. FitFam El Paso shared photos and videos highlighting the issue, noting that while many of the images came from the Eastside, reports were coming in from all over the city. Their caption summed it up perfectly: this past weekend’s rainfall and snowfall opened up new potholes on several roadways and drivers are feeling it.

How To Protect Your Car From Pothole Damages
- Slow down, especially on familiar roads. New potholes can form where you least expect them.
- Leave extra space between you and the car ahead so you have time to react.
- Avoid puddles when possible — they often hide deep potholes underneath.
- Keep tires properly inflated. Underinflated tires are more likely to suffer damage.
- If you can’t avoid a pothole, don’t slam the brakes right before hitting it — that can make damage worse.
How To Report Pot Poles In El Paso
After we shared this post on Facebook many people were quick to comment on how locals can report these pot holes. Calling 311 is a way for locals to report the potholes so they can hopefully get fixed.
However, ToDo El Paso shared a more detailed post on her Facebook page explaining other ways in which locals can report these potholes. In her post she wrote to still file 311 reports because the paper trail matters, but to also check if your road is listed in the MPO project list and to email both your City Rep and Senator Blanco and ask:
• Is this road scheduled for full rehab or reconstruction?
• If not, why?
• When will it be reconsidered?

What The City of El Paso Is Doing To Fix The Issue:
A post was shared on The city of El Paso’s instagram page addressing the issue of pot holes after the winter storm and City Representative Cynthia Boyar Trejo wrote:
"Because of the volume of reports, the [City of El Paso] is temporarily using cold mix asphalt to quickly stabilize roads and keep them safe. These repairs may look different, but they’re the most effective solution during winter conditions. Permanent hot mix repairs will continue as weather allows. Thank you for your patience."
