Warrant Amnesty Week In El Paso
If you have an active criminal warrant in El Paso County, this week might be your best chance to take care of it without being arrested.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced the start of Amnesty Week, giving individuals with active criminal warrants the opportunity to resolve them through the county courts. The amnesty period runs today through Friday, offering a limited window to clear outstanding warrants before a county-wide warrant round-up begins next week.
How Amnesty Week Works
Those who take advantage of this amnesty period can avoid being taken into custody by scheduling what is called a fast track booking appointment. This process allows individuals to handle their legal obligations in a controlled and scheduled manner instead of risking a public arrest.
To schedule a fast track booking appointment, individuals can call:
(915) 273-5143
(915) 273-3762
Appointments are available throughout the week, but officials are urging people not to wait until the last minute.
What Happens After Amnesty Week?
Once Amnesty Week ends, the Sheriff’s Office will begin a county-wide warrant round-up in partnership with other law enforcement agencies. The round-up is scheduled for July 28 through August 1 and will focus on locating and arresting individuals with outstanding criminal warrants.
Sheriff’s officials are encouraging those with active warrants to act now to avoid being arrested during the round-up. Resolving warrants voluntarily this week not only prevents being taken into custody but also helps reduce the strain on law enforcement resources during the warrant sweep.
Take Care of It Now
This amnesty period is designed to give people with warrants an opportunity to handle their legal issues responsibly. The Sheriff’s Office is emphasizing that those who choose to ignore the amnesty week will likely face arrest during next week’s round-up.
If you or someone you know has an outstanding warrant, the time to act is now. A phone call today could mean avoiding handcuffs next week.
