With so much negative news happening everywhere, it’s always great to come by a positive feel-good story to sprinkle some positivity and that’s what EPCC’s Cosmetology Department is hoping to do!

Pink took over the El Paso Community College Administrative Services Center on Friday as the college's Cosmetology Department hosted the 20th annual Power of Pink event, a day dedicated to celebrating breast cancer patients and survivors through beauty, encouragement, and community.

This isn’t EPCC’s first time hosting this event and every year it only get bigger and better. The event began in 2005 and every year it brings together EPCC students, faculty, healthcare partners, and local sponsors to provide complimentary makeovers for cancer survivors.

Participants received hairstyling, makeup, nail services, professional portraits, gifts, raffles, and refreshments all aimed at helping them feel celebrated and empowered.

"I'm very proud of this event because it helps our students develop their skills while serving people in need," said Cosmetology Program Coordinator Cecilia Dominguez. "Every year it gets bigger, and you can see how much it lifts the spirits of the women who participate."

For cosmetology student Nelly Hernandez, the experience was equally rewarding. "I'm just happy to help make these women feel powerful and beautiful," Hernandez said.

The complimentary portraits taken during the event will be unveiled at a kickoff celebration at UMC on Sept. 25 before traveling to local hospitals throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Kudos to EPCC for keeping this amazing event going. These women are battling so much and sometimes forget to take time to stop and pamper themselves. For many of these women, knowing that every year they will get a full day of pampering is a beautiful thing!
