New Rail Line For El Paso – Juarez Airports Could Save You BIG $$
El Paos travelers could be looking at a game changer here. Ditto for travelers in Juarez but the savings for El Pasoans in particular could be huge.
A train that runs from the El Paos International Airport to the Ciudad Juarez Airport,(aka Abraham Gonzalez International Airport), in Juarez is being considered and, I must admit, I'm all for it.
Getting from one airport to the other isn't exactly impossible now but this could make it super easy for all, even those not necessarily traveling by air.
I have flown out of the Ciudad Juarez/Abraham Gonzalez International Airport in Juarez a few times and I have friends that do it all the time. My trips through El Paso International Airport are, of course, in the zillions.
Why Is A Train Between The El Paso/Juarez Airports Smart?
Mainly, money. The savings between flying from Juarez versus El Paso can be HUGE. For example, let's say Metallica are performing in Mexico City. At the moment, a round trip ticket from Juarez to Mexico runs about $200.
Meanwhile, at this time, (subject to change, of course), round trip tix from El Paso to Mexico City are about $500. (At the low end.)
Thinking more of a luxury vacay as opposed to a "rockin' road trip"? Here's a Cancun, (one of my most favorite places), comparison.
At the moment, a round trip ticket from Juarez to Cancun can be less than $200. Also ... again, at this moment ... round trip from El Paso to Cancun can be $500 or more. (Actually, $500 isn't that bad for US pricing but $200 is still better.)
There has been talk about a direct flight from El Paso to Cancun which would be nice but, most likely, still a lot more expensive.
The only downside to travel out of Juarez is getting to the airport and, moresoo, crossing the border. The wait times at the bridge can be huge and, if you're hauling luggage around, it's really a pain.

If the train runs a nonstop, direct route and passengers clear customs at the airport(s), the wait time would be a lot less and luggage more manageable on top of the back and forth transportation being handled.
Who Else Could Use The Train?.
Some folks might take the train to cross for other reasons ... business, shopping, family visit, whatever ... easier.
Not sure how much it would cost or if travel would be limited to airline ticket holders only but I still think it's a good idea. Even if air travelers are, indeed, the only ones using it.
It's just a thought for now anyway. The city of El Paso apparently hasn't even seen a proposal yet so, we'll see what happens.
