Remember When Dallas Cowboys Players Formed a Rock Band
Yes it's true. When they weren't on the field giving their rivals headaches, some former Dallas Cowboys were giving us headaches because of all the headbanging we were doing. In the early 2010s, 3 Cowboys players formed a rock band during the off-season called "Free Reign" in, of course, Dallas, Texas.
Which Dallas Cowboys would form the rock band Free Reign?
Offensive lineman/right tackle Marc Coloumbo, guard Leonard Davis & guard/center Cory Proctor would join together with Justin Chapman (the only one in the band to NOT join the NFL) to form Free Reign. Marc used to be #75 with the Cowboys, Leonard as #70 & Cory #71.
The band consisted of Marc as the vocalist/guitarist, Justin on lead guitar, Leonard on bass, Cory on drums (he even went into detail on what he used with an interview with Modern Drummer).
In an interview with Guitar Site, Justin talked about how he met all 3 former Dallas Cowboys players. He said he was friends with Leonard all his life while he met Cory & Marc at the House of Blues in December 2008. Marc asked him if he wanted to be in a band, and the rest is history. Justin even joked and called themselves "the heaviest band in the world...literally" while talking to Blabbermouth.
Free Reign would release their debut album, Heavier Than Metal, on April 19, 2011, with "One Step Away" being the lead single. As of 2026, the band hasn't released another album but the music video is still on their official channel for us to check out.
While Free Reign has been pretty quiet, they DO occasionally post every so often on their Facebook page (the last post being on October 4, 2025). You can still find their music on places like Reverbnation & Spotify.
The band has NOT been forgotten to time either; NFL legacy interviewed Cory on their Instagram page & he shared what it was like playing shows with Five Finger Death Punch & Three Days Grace. The full 53 minute interview was uploaded onto YouTube as well that you can watch here.
This isn't the only thing the Dallas Cowboys have done musically; the team actually filmed a music video in the 80s. You can watch it here.
