Texas Hunting Season 2025

Due to the shift in daylight hours and cooler temperatures, game animals, such as white-tailed deer, are experiencing peak activity, making November through January prime hunting season.

According to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD), the general season for white-tailed deer in most of the state opens November 1 and runs through early January in the South Zone.

More Than Just Deer

Beyond deer, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) has highlighted expansions in public hunting opportunities and the increasing use of digital licenses this season.

What does that actually mean?

These advancements are designed to simplify the process for local hunters seeking access to land and draw applications throughout Texas.

This means residents of the Midland–Odessa region gain increased flexibility and a better opportunity to locate hunting grounds that align with their preferences.

The new Bass Pro Shops opening in the area provides even more options, with a vast selection of hunting accessories and gear to assist any aspiring hunter.

While Fearless only hunts a few times a year, there are other times when he will stop to take a dead animal off the road, like that deer on Buffalo Gap Road.
