Mineral Wells, Texas. Population less than 20,000. A one hour plane ride and a drive that would take less than 4 hours from Midland-Odessa. A small town that I personally have never visited but with lots of history. Or should I say one place, one very haunted hotel in particular has lots of history?

The Baker Hotel, a 14 story, 450 room hotel that welcomed many of the rich and famous through the 30's and 40's looking for a relaxing, luxurious getaway from Hollywood. According to onlyinyourstate.com,

Helen Keller, Clark Gable, Judy Garland, and even the infamous Bonnie and Clyde are said to have stayed at the Baker in its heyday.

The Baker Hotel was the IT hotel when paying a visit to Texas. It boasted fancy ballrooms, a relaxing spa, and a bowling alley among other amenities, and was even home to the very first hotel swimming pool in the state at the time.

However, for a number of reasons, the hotel struggled and interest in staying became less and less, it closed down for good in 1972.

Legend has it, according to onlyinyourstate.com, that many spirits still enjoy their stay and some even claim that the ghosts of the infamous Bonnie and Clyde have stayed behind in one of the rooms. You can catch a glimpse of them...if you are into that kind of thing.

You may also see a 'lady in white.' She lived in the hotel at one time but ended her life by jumping off the building. Back when tours were still being given and were allowed to enter the Baker Hotel, a lot of paranormal activity was experienced throughout the entire hotel.

What if I told you that for the first time in many decades this hotel in Mineral Wells could open its doors again? Would you like to visit and possibly stay for the weekend?

That is actually the case. According to onlyinyourstate.com,

thanks to a $65-million renovation project, the Baker Hotel is hoping to be restored and open to the public by the end of 2022 so the community can once again enjoy the splendor of this beloved landmark.

One can only hope this project is completed. Check out the review of someone who once took a tour:

Vicki says that,

my husband and I took a tour of it on our own about 15 years ago. I dont believe in gohsts or spirits but I do believe that the women who appeared and took us in through a door that was opened was the spirit of Judy Garland.

This once lavish hotel is considered one of the most haunted places in the state of Texas. If it reopens at the end of this year, would you visit?
