Yet another earthquake was registered by the USGS about 3 miles SW of Midland, so is Midland/Odessa the most active area in the state?

The earthquake yesterday was actually the fourth earthquake registered in the past week according to earthquaketrack.com.

They have also reported 26 over the past month and 193 in the past year just in the Midland/Odessa area.

So now we seem like we are living close to the San Andreas fault, which is over 1500 miles away because fracking in the area has made our activity jump in the past 20 years.

Back in the 70s and 80s when the last oil boom was going on, there were no reports of earthquakes in and around the west Texas area and now in the 20s, we are having around 200 earthquakes per year.

But we are not the most active in the state even with all of those figures, the Texas/New Mexico border area is becoming as active as California is along the San Andreas fault.

Mentone is the epicenter of the most seismic activity with over 50 earthquakes registered in just the past week, making it one of the most active areas in the United States.

The Mentone area has also had over 200 earthquakes in the past 30 days and more than 2,000 over the past 365 days.

This means that you better get your earthquake insurance together now while it is still cheap for us here in Texas, it will help you out if there is a large earthquake that causes a crack in a foundation or in your house itself.
