44 Wheels Stolen: Tesla Heist at Empty Amazon Warehouse Baffles Texas
In what could be one of the oddest crimes ever committed forty-four wheels were stolen off of eleven Tesla cars at an Amazon warehouse parking lot.
Warehouse Mystery: League City Tesla Theft
The crime took place in League City, Texas which is about a half an hour Southeast of Houston. The Amazon warehouse that the cars were parked at is a $30 million, 180,000 sq ft facility that was scheduled to be used as a delivery facility, but it has not become operational yet. It appears that the empty lot was being used as a storage facility for unsold Tesla model Y and 3 vehicles.
️♂️ No Cameras, No Clues: A Silent Heist
The empty warehouse did not have any security footage available of the incident. It appears that the Tesla autos were being stored there because sales have dropped significantly, and dealerships are looking for places to house surplus inventory.
Unfortunately, since there were no cameras available to capture any footage of the crime, and none of the Tesla models that were being held in the parking lot had their cameras activated either. There also wasn't any valuable information to be gained from any other security cameras in the area.
⚙️ The Logistics: A Calculated Crime ⏱️
A crime of this magnitude would have taken a great deal of planning and labor to be successfully executed. The wheels and tires on a Tesla average about 30lbs each, so they would have had to have transportation for over 1,300 pounds of rubber and aluminum. The removal of a wheel from a car can take several minutes unless you're on a Nacar pit crew, so it would have taken quite some time to remove all of the wheels and tires as well.
$11,000 Gone: The Cost of Stolen Wheels
The average price of a Tesla wheel on Facebook Marketplace is around $250, so this wasn't a cheap heist. It looks like the thieves may have made off with about $11,000 worth of Tesla wheels and tires.
