All of us love our cars in the Central Texas area. They get us from point a to point b, and some even reflect our personalities with the way they're designed. But, a new part of cars is in the sights for car thieves in the state.

What Is Being Sought By Thieves In The State Of Texas?

According to KHOU, recently a situation occurred where multiple cars and multiple items of cars were taken by unknown individuals:

Yes, you read that right, tailgates were taken off a vehicle to be sold for a high amount. According to KHOU, some even reach the price of $10,000. Harris County Sheriff's Office Auto Theft Unit Member, Lt. John Gonzalez, said about the parts: “There’s a big aftermarket for truck parts, especially for Ford and GM models."

Of course, this was only in Houston for time being. But here's how to avoid it here in the Central Texas area.

Keeping Your Car Safe In The Central Texas Area

KHOU provided multiple ways, from the police department, on how to avoid these thefts happening to you:

- Installing steering wheel locks or aftermarket alarm systems
- Locking your tailgate and vehicle doors
- Storing key fobs in Faraday bags at home to prevent signal cloning
- Using OBD port covers or locks

In addition to those previously mentioned items, you should buy your vehicle from a reputable source, and to avoid getting a vehicle that is possibly stolen, to meet with the unidentified seller at a safe place.
