Everybody has to work in the state of Texas. It's just a fact of life that everyone all has to work to make money to pay for important life items. Even when we're trying to make money in the state though, somebody is trying to take advantage of somebody.

How Do False Job Postings Actually Work?

As revealed by CBS News, a fake job scam begins like any other scam: it looks real. With the usage of AI, some offers are getting more and more difficult to determine if they are legitimate. By pretending to be LinkedIn or a recruiter for an occupation, a scammer can cause more harm to a person by stealing personal information and money.

Central Texas is no stranger to scams, but ones that illegally take both personal information and one's personal funds are never good to go through. Recently though, growth has happened towards one group of individuals.

Who Is Being Targeting By False Job Posting In Central Texas?

Per KXAN, Millennials searching for jobs during the summer have found themselves in the crosshairs of potential scammers. When KXAN reached out to the Better Business Bureau, they gave out a few tips on how to spot one from Heather Massey:

"Another common tactic is they’re going to help you set up your office. So they’re going to send you a check for, say, $1,000 to go ahead and buy those materials. Once you deposit the check, they’re going to immediately let you know they’ve overpaid you and ask you to send them a portion of that money back before you realize the check is bogus. It is fraudulent. With the bank, you’ve already sent the scammer money, and you’re on the hook for both items."

Massey recommends that if something seems too good to be true, report it to the BBA via this link. Stay safe and be smart Central Texas!
