Austin Drivers Guide: Funeral Processions and Right-of-Way Rules
Funeral processions are something that one in Texas may have seen recently. But many in the state may not know what to do when they see one on the roadway. What is the protocol for a Texan while driving and they see a procession occurring?
How Do You Know If A Funeral Procession Is Occurring In Texas?
As reported by Better Place Forests, the front of the procession is a black sedan, with the second vehicle in the line being the hearse. In addition, flags with the word "funeral" may be seen on one car, a few cars, or all the cars in the line. Additionally, hazard lights may be used to show family members following the procession.
Processions are very slow as well, with the top speed of all vehicles being under 30 miles per hour. Processions also have the caveat of being allowed to pass stop signs of red lights, as to not stop the tender moment.

Are There Any Laws About Funeral Processions In The State Of Texas?
When one sees a funeral procession in the state of Texas, some might be confused as to what to do. Should one pull over? Or you should try to keep going to avoid being in the way?
According to EverythingLubbock, no laws at the time of writing prohibit one from having to pull over when a funeral procession is happening in Texas. But one should still make that effort move off to the side of the road to allow the procession to continue without disruption.
But, as stated by Lubbock Department of Public Safety Seargent Adrien Briseno to EverythingLubbock:
“Both of those that choose not to pull over and those that do need to remember safety for themselves and others on the roadway...Use due care when continuing on and when pulling over. Do not interfere with anyone on the roadway. Safety first.”
Be safe and respectable Texas.
