When it comes to the population we are a diverse group including ages.  However one would assume the average age would belong to younger millennials.

Texas is the 2nd Youngest when it Comes to Age in the US

According to a study done by the US Census Bureau back in 2022, the average age of the people in Texas is 36.

Texas, North Dakota, and Alaska all share a median age of 36.   The median age of those in the US is 38.9.   That was a .02% increase in median age between 2021 and 2022.

“As the nation’s median age creeps closer to 40, you can really see how the aging of baby boomers, and now their children — sometimes called echo boomers — is impacting the median age. The eldest of the echo boomers have started to reach or exceed the nation’s median age of 38.9,” said Kristie Wilder, a demographer in the Census Bureau’s Population Division. "While natural change nationally has been positive, as there have been more births than deaths, birth rates have gradually declined over the past two decades. Without a rapidly growing young population, the U.S. median age will likely continue its slow but steady rise.” <a href="https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2023/population-estimates-characteristics.html#:~:text=JUNE%2022%2C%202023%20%E2%80%94%20The%20nation's,of%20the%20population%20is%20younger." target="_blank">- Census.gov</a>

To keep the median age younger, it seems that the younger generations of age need to start having more children.

Are We In for A Population Crisis?

A  Pew Research Center survey found that many U.S. adults who are not already parents say they are unlikely to ever have children.

Some 44% of non-parents ages 18 to 49 say it is not too or not at all likely that they will have children someday, an increase of 7 percentage points from the 37% who said the same in a 2018 survey. Meanwhile, 74% of adults younger than 50 who are already parents say they are unlikely to have more kids, virtually unchanged since 2018.

As is right now a lot of people are struggling to put a roof over their heads and food on their tables, and adding children to the mix will make that even harder.

Unless something changes the median age of Texas and even the country will continue to rise.
