The first major winter storm in Amarillo started on January 23, 2026.  An Arctic storm moved across the Texas Panhandle and most of the United States.

Businesses and Shoppers Prepare for Snowstorm

The storm brought snow to Amarillo, and many businesses across the Texas Panhandle closed in anticipation of the storm. Not only were businesses closing, but necessary items were flying off store shelves.  Shoppers rushed to grab essentials like milk, bread, water, and ingredients for comfort foods.

Snowfall Details and Local Measurements

The National Weather Service of Amarillo reported 3.7 inches of snow at Rick Husband International Airport.

Staying Cozy Indoors vs Enjoying the Snow

While many people stayed indoors binge-watching TV shows and movies indoors, eating their soups and stews, others got out and enjoyed the snow. Some braved the icy roads, driving cautiously to get to and from work.
